a) 3 and 1

Explanation:

a-b=2 .....(1) and

a+b=4.....(2)

=> a=2+b (from 1)....(3)

substitute the value of a in 2..

=> 2+2b=4

=> 2b= 4-2=2

=>b=2/2

=> b=1

substitute the value of b in 3...

a=2+1

a=3

therefore, the values of a and b are 3 and 1

Explanation:let's take x-y=2

                                  or,x=2+y.....eqn(1)

              Then next equation, x+y=4

                                               or,2+y+y=4.....from eqn(1)

                                           or,2+2y=4

                                            or,2y=4-2

                                           or,y=2/2

                                          so,y=1

Again,putting value in eqn (1),we get,x=1+2

                                                          so,x=3

              since,x=a so a=3 and y=b .so,b=1

Hence,the value of a is 3 n bis 1.i.e the answer is (a).
