therefore putting these valueof x and y in the given equation we get,

a - b = 2 => a = 2 + b. - (1)

a + b = 4 => a = 4 - b -(2)

from eq (1) and (2) we get,

2 + b = 4 - b

2b = 2

b = 1

put in (1)

a = 2 + 1 = 3

hence a = 3 , b = 1 , ab = 3
