x=a , y=b

x+y=5 ____I

2x-3y= 4 _____ II

multiply equation I by 3

therefore, 3x+3y= 15 _____ III

add equation II and III

3x+3y=15

2x-3y=4

5x= 19

therefore ,x =19/5

substitute x=19/5 in equation I

19/5+y=5

therefore ,y=5-19/5

y=6/5

x=a=19/5 y =b= 6/5
