Answer:

No, it is not necessary. For example:-

Let x = 5

y = 10

x + 1 = 6

y + 1 = 11

\frac{x}{y} = \frac{5}{10} = \frac{1}{2}

\frac{x+1}{y+1} = \frac{6}{11} [not in direct proportion]
