Let's say A and B are inversely proportional, so if A increases by factor of 2 each time , then B will decrease by the factor of 2 each time.

A - 2, 4, 8, 16, 32....

B - 1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16.....

Here,

2 × 1 = 2

4 × 1/2 = 2

8 × 1/4 = 2

16 × 1/8 = 2

and so on....

Here, product of A and it's respective B is always a constant "2". This shows that A and B are inversely proportional to each other.

So, we get the answer: If x and y are inversel proportional, then x(y) = k, where k is a constant
