x + xy = 391

=> x ( 1 + y ) = 391

since x and y are integers , therefore we can solve it simply factorising 391 .

391 = 17 * 23 = x ( 1 + y )

since x > y

=> x = 23
1+y = 17 => y = 16

so x + y = 23 + 16 = 39

Given:

x and y are positive integers

x > y

x + xy = 391

To Find:

The value of x + y

Solution:

We know that,

x + xy = 391

=> x ( 1 + y ) = 391

since x and y are integers, we can solve it simply factorising 391 .

391 = 17 x 23 = x(1 + y)

since x > y

=> x = 23

1 + y = 17

=> y = 16

so,

x + y = 23 + 16 = 39

Hence, the value of x + y is 39.
