It has given that x and y form a linear pair such that x - 2y = 33.

To find : The value of x

solution : two angles are said to be linear pair if their sum is 180°

i.e., if x and y form a linear pair then x + y = 180

here x - 2y = 33 and x + y = 180

(x + y) - (x - 2y) = 180 - 33

⇒y + 2y = 147

⇒y = 147/3 = 49

the value of x = 2y + 33

= 2 × 49 + 33

= 98 + 33

= 131

Therefore the value of x is 131
