Given : X is set of letters needed to spell "MISSISSIPPI" and Y is set of letters needed to spell "SIP".  

To Find :  X ∩ Y ,  X ∪ Y  , X - Y , Y - X

Solution:

X is set of letters needed to spell "MISSISSIPPI"

=> X = { M , S , I , P }

Y is set of letters needed to spell "SIP".  

=> Y = { S , I , P }

X ∩ Y   =  { S , I , P }  =  Y

X ∪ Y  =   { M , S , I , P } = X

X - Y  = { M }

Y - X = { } = Ф
