It is given that x = k^{2} and y = k

The equation given is x - 3y = 10

Let us replace the value of x and y :

k^{2} -3k=10

k^2-3k-10=0

k^2-5k+2k-10=0

k(k-5)+2(k-5)=0

(k-5)(k+2)=0

So k = 5 or k = -2
