By factor theorem,

If x-2 is factor of p(x) = 2x^3 - 7x^2 + 11x + 5a then p(a) = 0.

Hence p(2) = 0

=) 2x^3 - 7x^2 + 11x + 5a = 0

=) 2(2)^3 - 7(2)^2 + 11(2) + 5a = 0

=) 16 - 28 + 22 + 5a = 0

=) 10 + 5a = 0

=) 5a = - 10

=) a = - 10/5

=) a = - 2.

Hope it's helpful to u.

Anonymous: so according to ur question a is 2 so p(a) =0
smily1439: ya i understood thanku
Anonymous: p(a) means to place value of a which is equal to 2 in every place of x

Answer: a = -2

Step by step explanation:

BY FACTOR THEOREM

If x-2 is a factor of p(X) then p(a) = 0

hence p(2)=0

so,

=> 2x^3-7x^2+11x+5a=0

=> 2×2^3-7×2^2+11×2+5a=0

=> 16-28+22+5a=0

=> 10+5a=0

=> 5a=-10

=> a= -10÷5

=> a= -2

THE CORRECT ANSWER
