x-y=5

x=5+y---------------------eqn 1

xy=24

x=24/y---------------------eqn 2

from eqn 1 and 2 we can observe that left side terms are equal.So we should equate the right side terms

5+y=24/y

y(5+y)=24

5y+y^2-24=0

y^2 +5y-24=0

y^2+8y-3y-24=0

y(y+8)-3(y+8)=0

(y+8)(y-3)=0

y=-8 (or) y=3

let's consider 3

x=5+y

=5+3

=8

x=8

y=3

Sum of two no.=x+y=8+3 = 11
