If x = root 5 - 2 upon root 5 + 2 and y = root 5 +2 upon root 5 - 2 find the value of x^2 and y ^2

x = root 5 - 2/root 5 + 2

  on rationalising

2/root 5 * root 5/root 5

=2 root 5/5

so

root 5 - 2 root 5/5  + 2

(5 root 5 - 2 root 5 + 10)/5

x^2

(145 + 60 root 5 )/25

y = root 5 + 2/root 5 -2

similarily

y^2

(145 - 60 root 5) /25
