Given :

x² + b x + c = 0

Comparing with a x² + b x + c = 0 we get :

a = 1

b = b

c = c

Now :

It is given the equation has equal roots .

So : b² = 4 a c

==> c = b² / 4 a

But a = 1 .

So : c = b² / 4

The value of c is b² / 4

Hope it helps :-)
