x -  \frac{(x - 1)}{3}  =  \frac{x + 1}{4}  \\  \\  \frac{3x - (x - 1)}{3}  =  \frac{x + 1}{4}  \\  \\  \frac{3x - x + 1}{3} =  \frac{x + 1}{4}  \\  \\  \frac{2x + 1}{3}  =  \frac{x + 1}{4}  \\  \\ 4(2x + 1) = 3(x + 1) \\ 8x + 4 = 3x + 3 \\ 8x - 3x = 3 - 4 \\ 5x =  - 1 \\ x =  -  \frac{1}{5}
