The value of ( 7x + 3y ) : ( 2x + y ) is (c) 16: 5.

Given: x : y = 1 : 3.

To Find: The value of ( 7x + 3y ) : ( 2x + y ).

Solution:

We get that the ratio of x to y = 1/3

∴   x / y  =  1 / 3

y = 3x                                                                            ....(1)

We need to find the ratio between,

        ( 7x + 3y ) : ( 2x + y )                                                  ....(2)

So, we shall put (1) in (2) to get a finite value,

    ⇒ ( 7x + 3×3x ) / ( 2x + 3x )

    ⇒  16x / 5x

    ⇒   16 / 5

    ⇒    16: 5

Hence, the value of ( 7x + 3y ) : ( 2x + y ) is (c) 16: 5.
