Answer:

x = 7

y = 3

Step-by-step explanation:

x + y = 10  ----------> equation ( 1 )

2x - 3y = 5 ------------> equation ( 2 )

multiply equation ( 1 ) * 2:

=> 2 ( x ) + 2 ( y ) = 2 ( 10 )

=> 2x + 2y = 20    ---------> equation ( 3 )

subtract equation ( 3 ) - equation ( 2 ) :

=>    2x + 2y = 20

( - )   2x - 3y  =  5

----------------------------

       0 + 5y    = 15

---------------------------------

=> 5y = 15

=> y = 15 / 5

=> y = 3

apply y = 3 in equation ( 2 ):

=> 2x - 3 ( 3 ) = 5

=> 2x - 9 = 5

=> 2x = 5 + 9

=> 2x = 14

=> x = 14 / 2

=> x = 7

therefore x = 7 and y = 3
