it is not xj, it is xy

(x+y)² - (x-y)² = (10)² - (4)²

or, (x²+2xy+y²) - (x²-2xy+y²) = 100 - 16

or, x²+2xy+y² - x²+2xy-y² = 84

or, 4xy = 84

or, xy = 21
