x + y = 10 ...... (i)
y - x = 8 ......(ii)

(i) - (ii) = 2y = 2
y = 1
Therefore x = 9

x + y = 10

y - x = 8

Adding both equations,

x + y + y - x = 10 + 8

2y = 18

y = 18 / 2 = 9

Putting value of y in X + y = 10,

x + 9 = 10

x = 10 - 9 = 1

So, x = 1, y = 9.
