Substitute y in equation ( 1 ) to get the value of " x ":-

x + y = 10

x + ( -1 ) = 10

x - 1 = 10

x = 10 + 1

Given,

x - y = 12

11 - ( -1 ) = 12

11 + 1 = 12

12 = 12
