we know that

(x+y)^3= x^3+y^3, 3xy(x+y)

therefore,

12^3 = x^3 + y3+3*27*12

278 = x^3 +y^3 + 97,2

x^3+y^3 =2728-972 = 756

since x^3+y^3=756.
