If (x + y) = 12 and xy = 35, find the value of x2 – y2

Answer:

X+y = 12. ---(1)

xy= 35

Squaring eq 1 both side we get

(x+y)^2 = 12^2

x^2 + y^2 + 2xy = 144. ---(2)

Putting the value of xy in eq 2

x^2 + y^2+2×35 = 144

x^2 + y^2 = 144-70

x^2 + y^2 = 74
