(x-y)^2= x2 + y2 - 2xy

(13)^2 =x2 + y2 - 2(-5)

169  = x2 + y2 + 10

x2+y2= 169-10

x2 + y2 = 159

So, 1/3 (x2 + y2) = (1 * 159)/3

                          = 159/3

                          = 53
