Given: x : y = 2 : 3 and z : w = 5x : 7y

To find: the value of xz : yw

Solution:

  • Given, x : y = 2 : 3 or, x / y = 2 / 3 ... ...(1)

  • Also, z : w = 5x : 7y
  • or, z / w = 5x / 7y
  • or, z / w = 5 / 7 * x / y
  • or, z / w = 5 / 7 * 2 / 3 [ by (1) ]
  • or, z / w = 10 / 21 ... ...(2)

  • Now, xz : yw
  • = xz / yw
  • = x / y * z / w
  • = 2 / 3 * 10 / 21 [ by (1) and (2) ]
  • = 20 / 63
  • = 20 : 63

Answer: Option (D) 20 : 63 is correct.
