X = 3 & Y= 1

2X - 5Y = 1 ----------( 2 )

MULTIPLYING BY 5 EQUATION ( 1 )

5 ( X + Y = 4)

5X + 5Y = 20 ---------( 3 )

ADD EQUATION ( 2 ) & ( 3 )

2X - 5Y = 1

5X + 5Y = 20

7X = 21

X = 21/7

X = 3

NOW......

X = 3 TAKING EQUATION( 2 )

2X - 5Y = 1

2(3) - 5Y = 1

6 - 5Y = 1

-5Y = 1 - 6

-5Y = -5

Y = -5/-5

Therefore , X = 3 & Y = 1
