Good question !!

Given:-

x + y = 5

xy = 4

x - y = ....

By using suitable identity like:-

(x - y) ^{2}  = (x + y) ^{2}  - 4xy

Now putting the values in equation.

We get,

(x - y) ^{2}  =  {5}^{2}  - 4 \times 4

(x - y) ^{2}  = 25 - 16

(x - y) ^{2}  = 9

(x - y) =  \sqrt{9}

(x - y) = 3ans...

hence value of (X - Y) = 3
