SOLUTION

GIVEN

x - y = 6 & xy = 14

TO DETERMINE

The value of x + y

EVALUATION

Here it is given that x - y = 6 & xy = 14

Now  \sf{ {(x + y)}^{2} = {(x - y)}^{2} + 4xy}

 \sf{ \implies \: {(x + y)}^{2} = {(6)}^{2} + 4 \times 14}

 \sf{ \implies \: {(x + y)}^{2} = 36 + 56}

 \sf{ \implies \: {(x + y)}^{2} = 92}

 \sf{ \implies \: {(x + y)}^{} = \sqrt{92} }
