In this equation y is considered as a variable.
x+y=6 ---------------- eq.1
x-2y=18 ---------------e.2
By subtracting eq.2 from e.1,
x+y-[x-2y]=6-18
x+y-x+2y=-12
3y=-12
y=-4.
By putting the value of y in eq.1,
x+y=6
x-4=6
x=6+4
x=10
x+y=6 ---------------- eq.1
x-2y=18 ---------------e.2
By subtracting eq.2 from e.1,
x+y-[x-2y]=6-18
x+y-x+2y=-12
3y=-12
y=-4.
