If x+y=8 & xy=15 find the value of (
x^2+y^2)

Given,
x+y = 8 and xy = 15
Squaring (x+y) we
(x+y)^2 = x^2 + y^2 + 2xy. ( since (a+b)^2 = a^2 + b^2+ 2ab)
8*8 = x^2 + y^2 + 2*15. ( since x+y = 8 and xy = 15)
64 = x^2 + y^2 + 30
64 - 30 = x^2 + y^2
x^2 + y^2 = 34
