⇒ x(8 - x) = 15

⇒ x² - (5 + 3)x + 15 = 0

⇒ x² - 5x - 3x + 15 = 0

⇒ x(x - 5) - 3(x - 5) = 0

⇒ (x - 5)(x - 3) = 0

⇒ x = 5 or x = 3

     Hence, when x = 5,  y = 8 - 5 = 3

when x = 3, y = 8 - 3 = 5
