if x-y=8 and xy=5 find 2(x^2+y^2)

GIVEN THAT,

x-y = 8

xy = 5

Now,

We know that,

(x-y)² = x² + y² - 2xy

(8)² = x² + y² - 2(5)

64 = x² + y² - 10

64 + 10 = x² + y²

x² + y² = 74

=> 2( x² + y² ) = 2×74 = 148

HENCE,

Answer : 148
