Answer :-

The value of (x - y) is √1 respectively.

Solution :-

Given :

x + y = 9

xy = 20

We know that,

 {(x + y)}^{2}  =  {(x - y)}^{2}  + 4xy

Putting the values,

 =  >  {9}^{2}  =  {(x - y)}^{2}  + 4 \times 20

 =  > 81 =  {(x - y)}^{2}  + 80

 =  > 81 - 80 =  {(x - y)}^{2}

 =  > 1 =  {(x - y)}^{2}

 =  >  {(x - y)}^{2}  = 1

 =  > (x - y) =  \sqrt{1}

Hence, the value of (x - y) is √1.
