Given : x, y are positive integers with 45x = y²

To find :  smallest possible value of x+y

Solution:

45x = y²

=> y²  = 45x

=> y²  = 3 * 3 * 5 * x

=> y²  = 3² * 5 * x

as x & y are integer so smallest possible value of x  = 5

=> y²  = 3² * 5 * 5

=> y²  = 3² * 5²

=> y²  = 15²

=> y = 15

x = 5   , y  = 15

x + y = 5 + 15 = 20

smallest possible value of x+y  = 20
