Answer:

x-y=5 , x*y = 336

x- y = 5

x == 5+y

put the value of x in x*y = 336

therefore, (5+y)y = 336

5y + y^2 = 336

y^2 + 5y = 336

y^2 +5y - 336 = 0

y^2 + 21y -16y - 336 = 0

y(y+21) -16(y+21) = 0

( y-16) (y+21) =0

y-16 = 0 , y+21 =0

y = 16 , , y = -21

Given:-

x - y = 5

x * y = 336

On solving:-

=> (x - y)² =x² - 2xy + y²

=> 5² =x² + y² - 2*336

=> 25 = x² + y² - 672

=> 697= x² + y²

Now:-

=> (x+y)² = x² + y² + 2xy

=> (x+y)² = 697 + 2*336

=> (x+y)² = a1369

=> (x+y) = (1369)¹/²

=> (x+y) = 37

Therefore:-

The sum of x and y is 37.
