Answer:

x = a , y = 0

Note:

★ If two ordered pairs are equal , then the corresponding coordinate are also equal , ie ; if (x,y) = (a,b) then x=a and y=b .

Solution:

  • Given : (x + y , x - y) = (a , a)
  • To find : x = ? , y = ?

We have ;

(x + y , x - y) = (a , a)

Thus,

x + y = a --------(1)

x - y = a ---------(2)

Now,

Adding eq-(1) and (2) , we get ;

=> x + y + x - y = a + a

=> 2x = 2a

=> x = 2a/2

=> x = a

Now,

Putting x = a in eq-(1) , we get ;

=> x + y = a

=> a + y = a

=> y = a - a

=> y = 0

Hence,

x = a , y = 0
