anyways for the question i think the 1st eq is
x/5-y/8=0
=>x/5-y/8 +1-1=0 (adding and subtracting 1)
=>(x/5+1)-(y/8+1)=0
=>[(x+5)/5]-[(y+8)/8]=0
=>x+5/5=y+8/8
=>x+5/y+8=5/8
the required ratio is 5/8
