The value of \bf \red{y_2 = 11.25}\\

Given:

  • If x_1 = 5, \: y_1 =7 .5, \: x_2 = 7.5
  • If x and y varies directly.

To find:

  • Value of y2.

Solution:

Concept to be used:

  • Put a proportionality constant for variables.
  • Find the value of proportionality constant from first pair.

Step 1:

Find the value of proportionality constant from first pair.

As

\bf x  \propto \:  y

Let k is the proportionality constant.

x = ky \\

or

k =  \frac{x}{y}  \\

Put values of x1 and y1.

k =  \frac{5}{7.5}  \\

or

\bf k =  \frac{1}{1.5}  \\

Step 2:

Find the value of y2.

As x2= 7.5

So,

 \frac{1}{1.5}  =  \frac{7.5}{y_2}  \\

cross multiply

y_2 = 1.5 \times 7.5 \\

or

\bf y_2 = 11.25 \\

Thus,

Value of y2 is 11.25.

By this way value of unknown variable can be calculated easily.
