Given x^2 = -3.

 = > x = \sqrt{-3} , x = -\sqrt{-3}

 = > x = \sqrt{-1} \sqrt{3}, x = \sqrt{-1} \sqrt{3}

 = > x = \sqrt{3}i, -\sqrt{3}i

Hope this helps!
