Solution :

we know that

(x-y)^2 = x^2 + y^2 - 2xy

substituting the values of x^2 + y^2 and xy here, we get

(x-y)^2 = 80-2(12)

that is, (x-y)^2 = 80-24 = 56

that is, (x-y) = √56 = 2√14

Hence,the value of (x-y) is 2√14.
