SOLUTION

GIVEN

 \sf{x_n = 3n - 2}

TO DETERMINE

  • The first term.

  • The remainder when the terms are divided by 3

EVALUATION

Here it is given that

 \sf{x_n = 3n - 2}

First term

 \sf{ = x_1 }

 \sf{ = (3 \times 1) - 2}

 \sf{ = 3 - 2}

 = 1

Hence first term = 1

Again

 \sf{x_n = 3n - 2}

Which can be rewritten as

 \sf{x_n = 3(n - 1) + 1}

Now 3(n-1) is divisible by 3

So the required Remainder = 1
