To find

x - 1/x = ?

Solution

( x - 1/x )^2 = ( x )^2 + ( 1/x )^2 - 2 ( x ) ( 1/x )

( x - 1/x )^2 = x^2 + 1/x^2 - 2

( x - 1/x )^2 = 3 -2

( x - 1/x )^2 = 1

taking square root of both the sides we get

( x - 1/x ) = 1
