Given:

Cost of TV per unit = Rs. 2000

Cost of tape recorder per unit = Rs. 12500

Number of TV purchased = 10

Number of tape recorder purchased = 15

Trade discount = 20%

To find:

Value to be recorded in the purchase book.

Solution:

Total amount for TV

 = 2000 \times 10

 = 20000

Total amount for tape recorder

 = 12500 \times 15

 = 187500

Total amount of goods purchased

 = 187500 + 20000

 = 207500

Now trade discounts

 = \frac{20}{100} \times 207500

 = 41500

Real cost price

 = 207500 - 41500

 = 166000

Therefore Rs. 166000 would be recorded in the purchase books as it is the cost price for 10 TV and 15 tape recorders after deducting the trade discount of 20%
