Do the cube both sides of the equation (1) , we get

(y+1/4y)³ = 2³

=> y³+(1/4y)³+3y(1/4y)(y+1/4y)

= 8

=> y³+1/64y³ +(3/4)×2 = 8

=> y³+1/64y³ +3/2 = 8

=> y³+1/64y³ = 8-3/2

= (16-3)/2

= 13/2
