Hope my answer helps you :)

y = 2 + √3

So 1/y = 1/2 + √3

Rationalising he denominator:-

1/2 +√3 * 2 - √3/2 - √3

=> 2 - √3/ 4 - 3 = 2 - √3

(y + 1/y)^2 = ( 2 + √3 + 2 - √3)^2

=> ( 4 )^2 = 16

=> y^2 + 1/y^2 + 2 = 16

So y^2 + 1/y^2 == 14 (Answer)

Thank you!
