given:

===>x + y  =   7  --------------------------------1

x - y    =  3  --------------------------------2

using substitution method to find the values of x and y ,

x = 7-y    

substitue the value of x in eq. 2 , we get

==> 7-y-y = 3

==> -2y = -4

==> y = 2

substitute the values of y in eq. 1 , we get

==>  x = 7-2

==> x  =  5    

and values of xy =>  ( 5 ) ( 2 )

==> 10
