In case it is metal :
• the object is metal if it is very strong ( except sodium and potassium) . In case of non metal the substance is not as strong as the metal ( except diamond)
• If the substance is metal , then it can be beaten into thin sheets whereas the non metal cannot
•If the substance is metal , it will be solid in room temperature ( except mercury) whereas non metals may be gaseous
• If the metal is dissolved with acid , then it will react with it and will displace hydrogen. whereas no reaction can be observed if the substance is non metal
