If you are inside a free-falling elevator, is it possible to escape from death by jumping upwards exactly before the elevator hits the ground?

No you can't escape if you are in anelevator that is in free fall. While it is true that everything in a falling elevator will float but the moment you hit the ground and acceleration of theelevator reduces from “g” to zero. The person's speed relative to the collision is also very high. To survive, one needs to decelerate to '0' very quickly, which would require you to jump at a very great force that is impossible. And such a force, even if it were hypothetically possible, will apply at varying points of time within the muscles and bones of the person, literally crushing person as various parts of the body are falling and resisting the shock at different rates .
