When we are stung by a wasp, formic acid is released by the sting into our body which causes the pain and the itching. Now, lemon juice is itself acidic as it contains weak acid of citric acid in it. So, instead of reducing the pain, it would add to it. But, baking soda or sodium hydrogen carbonate is a basic medium. Even though, it has a replacable hydrogen ion in it, it's pH is greater than 7 as it is a product of weak acid(carbonic acid) and strong base (sodium hydroxide). So, the basic salt would neutralise the acidic effect of formic acid and would reduce the pain.
