They flooded me with love and wisdom and support and I feel guilty that I had so much goodness in excess when other kids could have used even one iota of the hope and kindness my parents had to share.

Nor could I even fill their complicated accomplished human shoes. My friends always come away from chatting with them thinking “Their stories make us all seem so boring!” and it’s true.
