Explanation:
It was a rainy morning. The kids in the house were quite chirpy and the parents were busy managing them. As they sat at the dining table eating a scrumptious breakfast, the mother said, “Let’s play a game after this. We shall all read a book and then guess the ending. Each of us will predict its end. Then we shall read until the end to see who predicted correctly. Are you ready?” The kids joyfully agreed. Later, they turned to the home-library and picked up a book of their choice. I was left alone, again.
Don’t get me wrong, I love this family of readers and I am happy to be a part of it. But most of the time, I feel left out. I am Kindle, an introvert with a low profile. You can call me Mr. E-book. My home is usually my owner’s bag or a little corner at the home-library beside the paperbacks.
That day, while I was in a pensive mood in my little corner, a paperback a.k.a. Ms. Paper book had a little conversation with me, which changed my life. Want to know about it? This is how the conversation went -
Paper book: Hey Mr. E-book, thinking about something?
E-book: *No reaction*
Paper book: Hello, Mr. E-book!
E-book: Oh! Hi Ms. Paper book. Sorry I was lost in thought. What were you saying?
Paper book: I was asking if there is something that’s bothering you.
E-book: Oh! No, I mean yes. Eh… actually, I feel too lonely out here. I have no friends. I think I have developed some kind of inferiority complex. You have a bunch of friends out there. Even the owners feel proud to show this library to all their guests. I don’t think they are proud of me. They barely even talk about me. *tears up*
Paper book: My dear friend, you are as important as we are. You have so many superpowers.
E-book: Superpowers?
Paper book: Superpowers, indeed! You have in-built dictionaries, customized font size and style, quick word search, easy markers, and so much more. You can store way too much content than all of us together can. You're so enviable!
E-book: You are so sweet, my friend. Thank you for trying to cheer me up. But, you know, you all create a different kind of magic for the readers. They feel your cover, smell your pages, make dog-ears on your pages. It’s just so poetic! There is nothing so fascinating about me.
Paper book: Oh, come on. You're being too modest. You care so much about the reader’s eye-health. You dim your lights and adjust it to the outside light. Sounds like magic to me!
E-book: Oh! *smiling ear to ear* I totally forgot about that. And, I also help them read when there’s no light.
Paper book: Precisely! Besides, you also get to travel so much. We are getting old and it is difficult for them to carry us on vacations. In fact, even Tinkle has launched its new mobile app now!
E-book: Yes! The app has amazing features too, like:
Free comics available to read on the platform
Collection of 100+ titles including magazines, digests, double digests, character collections, etc.
Subscription plans starting from as low as Rs.299/month giving access to the complete catalogue
Available on iOS & Android platforms
Paper book: There you go! You are as powerful as us. There are a lot of similarities between e-books and paper books. Let’s say that we have different paths but we serve the same purpose, buddy.
E-book: You are the sweetest. Can I hug you?
Paper book: *Opening her arms* Welcome to the family!
