6.75% of 72.50

=6.75/100×72.50

=$4.89375 is sales tax

15% of 72.50

= 15/100×72.50

= $10.875 is tip

So Total amount = 10.875+4.89375+72.50

= $ 88.26875

Then as total people are 4

Therefore, 88.26875/4 = $22.0671875

Thus each one has to pay $ 22.0671875

Given cost of meal, sales tax and tip payable, find the share of each person

Explanation:

  1. let the total amount payable be 'T', cost of meal be 'm', taxable amount be 't' and tip payable be 'a', then we have                                                            T=m+a+t                                  (given\ m=\$72.5)
  2. given the tax percentage 'x' the taxable amount is given as ,                                t=m\frac{x}{100}=72.5\frac{6.75}{100} \\t=\$4.89375
  3. given the tip percentage 'y' the tip payable amount is given as,                               a=m\frac{y}{100} =72.5\frac{15}{100} \\a=\$10.875
  4. putting these values in equation from point 1. we get,                                                     T=72.5+4.89375+10.875\\T=88.26875\ \ \ \ \\T=\$88.3(approx.)
  5. now, the amount payable by each person (total four people) is                                A=\frac{T}{4}=\frac{88.3}{4} \\A=\$22.75     ---->ANSWER
